Georgina Chiou

For over six years, I’ve helped students craft compelling college applications that showcase their unique stories.

I’ve worked with students across the board, from 9th graders exploring their interests to grad school applicants refining their goals. My students have been accepted to top schools like Stanford, Yale, and UPenn, but my ultimate goal is helping you land at a school where you’ll feel excited about your future.

My approach is about identifying what makes you stand out and crafting a narrative that resonates with the reader. The students who embrace this process not only end up at great schools, but also step into their next chapter with purpose.

What students and families are saying

  • My time with Georgina has been extraordinary, and the results speak for themselves. She's truly there with us every step of the way and helps create both meaningful and memorable applications. Her guidance is always purposeful, helping us develop cohesive stories that make sense in the context of our application as a whole. Every detail of the Common App, from major selection for each college to activities description, was thought through. The way Georgina gives specific and thoughtful feedback, without ever sacrificing my own distinctive voice, is what makes her truly stand out as a great college consultant. It was clear on our first call how she was different from other consultants my parents and I had met with. She never attempted to dictate the process, but rather gave concise feedback and advice that gave me a clear path forward. From brainstorming ideas, asking questions that allowed me to apply my values to every essay, helping me revise the first, second, and then inevitably the eight draft, to everything in between were all moments in which I can confidently say Georgina was rooting for my success. Her methods drew out things I didn't even know about myself, ultimately allowing me to create unique and personal essays. Truly, I cannot thank Georgina enough, and I full heartily believe that without her help, I would not have gotten into all the amazing schools that I did!

  • I honestly don’t know what we would have done without Georgina. I didn’t go to college in the US, this was my first child applying, and her school did not have good counselors, so the entire process felt very stressful from the beginning. Also, my daughter’s dream school was UPenn, which felt almost impossible. Finding Georgina was truly a godsend. I was fully prepared for this to be a very stressful year, but she handled everything so clearly that I didn’t have to worry about the details at all. She always knew what needed to be done next and was also incredible at motivating my daughter without adding pressure, which was very important to me. In the end, my daughter got into UPenn, and we are still in disbelief!! I recommend Georgina wholeheartedly to any family navigating this process.

  • Working with Georgina was especially valuable because she never tried to dictate how my essays should be written. Instead, she encouraged me to explore my own creative voice and helped me shape my ideas into writing that felt authentic and distinctive. What stood out most was her ability to understand me on a deeper level. For instance, I rewrote one of my supplementals 5-6 times and reached a point where I felt discouraged. Georgina’s perspective and support helped me recognize that this is a common part of the process, and she guided me toward approaching my work with greater confidence. That encouragement made the overall experience 100% more thoughtful and rewarding! Having your essays, ideas, and overall application reviewed by someone you trust can make a meaningful difference in the process. In addition, having someone to talk to and receive guidance from during stressful moments is incredibly helpful, and it ended up having a greater impact on me than I initially expected. Thank you Georgina for all your help!! I truly cannot thank you enough for your guidance, support, and wisdom. I 100% believe you have made it possible for me to be here today.

  • I always knew Princeton was a reach for me. My grades were strong, but I didn’t have a huge spike or anything. I had a lot of different interests, but no clear sense of how they all fit together. I started working with Georgina in my junior year after being referred by a family friend, and it ended up being one of the most impactful parts of my college process. She never tried to put me into a box or change my interests. Instead she helped me reflect and find meaning in experiences I honestly had not thought that deeply about before. Our conversations went far beyond just brainstorming essay topics. She pushed me past vague, surface-level answers and helped me get to something much more honest and specific. That process gave me a lot more clarity about who I was and what I cared about. I’m now in my second year at Princeton studying Cognitive Science, and I still think back to things Georgina said during that time. Working with her made this process feel more personal and thoughtful, rather than just stressful. She was a true mentor, and I genuinely can’t recommend her enough.

  • In the spring, when I first started writing my college essays, I was confident in my ability to work independently from any college consultant. It was a little arrogant, but this judgement was not unfounded: one, my English grades in school were good; two, my English teachers gave me the go-ahead on the essays I had finished; three, college consultants were expensive, and according to others (netizens and upperclassmen), they were almost never worth it. However, entering summer, I had a nagging feeling in the back of my head telling me that there was no way essays could be done this quickly. So, to alleviate that sense of unease, I decided to try a session with Ms. Chiou. I still recall the sense of self-confidence I had entering the first session thinking all she'd do was confirm that my essays were good. I was very, very wrong. Working with Ms. Chiou has been an invaluable experience. In every session, her advice was pinpoint, logical, and endless (in a good way). Often, when I had no idea how to develop an essay further, Ms. Chiou would find sentences and potential ideas that would let me showcase more of my personality. Other times, when I hit a word limit and wanted to refine an essay, she'd help me cut out unnecessary words and tighten up loose sentences. What I appreciated the most from Ms. Chiou was that she could always explain why she was giving a particular piece of advice; there was always a line of reasoning behind even the smallest punctuation change or edit in sentence structure. I regret nothing from my experience with Ms. Chiou. Her advice helped me get into one of my dream schools, and at the same time, I've learned how to use writing to express myself on a level beyond anything I've been taught in school. Thank you for everything.

  • My experience was amazing and reassuring every step of the way. I started out confused. I didn't know what to write about or how to string together all my ideas. But I always felt supported and her follow-up questions to my responses helped me dig deep into my life to construct a personal statement… Working with Georgina is beneficial no matter where you are in the college application process. I started when I had no essays and no personal statement. I just had an idea of what I wanted to write about and she helped me brainstorm an outline and suggest I go deeper into some aspects and include consequences and personal strengths to strengthen my essay. Georgina was also extremely helpful with getting on track for supplementals. Initially, I had read tons of example supplementals online and even watched Youtube videos on how to write them. But it was still hard for me to get started or make sure that what I was writing was actually good. Georgina was really helpful with helping me structure my supplementals and include aspects that would help me stand out to the school and really show schools that I am a good fit for a specific college or major. Sometimes it was hard to hear criticism about an essay that I thought was perfect, but Georgina's criticism is always specific and constructive. There would be days where not a single one of my essays were "approved", which was really frustrating, but this ultimately helped me become a better writer and learn how to structure supplementals so that I was able to write them on my own and get feedback on how to strengthen them.

  • The requirements I had when searching for someone to help me edit my college essays included someone who could: spice up my essays to make them appealing and motivate me even when senioritis began to hit. Georgina matched these requests and even went further as to helping me develop my writing style. She taught me how to storytell in my writing, enveloping people into the setting and emotions involved in every decision. The essays Georgina helped me write weren't just successful in getting me into my dream schools, I also used them for competitive club applications when I started at UCLA. I can unbelievably say, I have never gotten rejected after a club essay round… People like to read about your passion and Georgina helps you show them that. I've loved my experience at UCLA so far… In my clubs, people always ask how to write their essays to get in, and I always tell them what I learned from her…Genuinely, I feel so lucky I was able to work with Georgina… it was a perfect fit and I feel like I was finally able to grasp the words I needed to say.

  • When college apps started up, I was very nervous, especially when it came to the essays. I felt the college counselling program at my school couldn’t provide the in-depth assistance that I really needed. I was also applying to art school, which made my application process a little different than most. Georgina was the perfect mentor. We would meet up once a week to go through my essays, with her giving constructive feedback that helped me better communicate my thoughts. She also helped me with my art portfolio and gave me advice on how to organize and title each piece. I ended up with an essay that I was very proud of and I couldn’t have done it without Georgina. I realized that, even after our sessions ended, a lot of the writing habits she instilled have stayed with me and influenced the way that I write to this day. I am very grateful for all of her advice and encouragement and I can’t recommend her enough.

    Anabelle T. (Art Center)

  • When I first started, I was very confused on where to start on my essays, and I basically had no idea what to write about. Working together was a very helpful experience because it helped me understand what I had to improve on my essays. This included things like brainstorming, grammatical corrections, and adding/removing sections to maximize the effectiveness of the essay in displaying who I really am. I really appreciated the lessons because Georgina listened and supported me, asked questions, and most importantly taught me how to dig deeper into my personal experiences. Having an extra set of experienced eyes look over what you have written makes a huge difference, as she may catch something that you may have missed. Georgina really helped me turn my essay into a story that tells admission officers who I am.
